Micro-Finance

Rural active poor Women

Training, workshops, bank transactions, fund seeking, disbursement of funds and M&E, Penalty collection,  and reporting to Swisshand.

To empower the rural women groups economically

192 rural women in Umuhuali and 180 Nkalagu   women have benefited from the programme, altogether 372 beneficiaries. Funds have been accessed from Open-Hand Swisshand.

19 women groups of 24 each have received the loans through PROMIC, Abakaliki Programme. Both the 1st to the 13th  groups have finished their repayments and are now empowered.

·         Poverty is drastically reduced as the empowered women are now financially independent.

 

·         Improvement in living standard.

·         More women request for funds.

Institute of Self-reliance Education(ISE)

Youths, school leavers, Adults, the jobless and the active poor.

·         Formal and informal training.

·         Provision of job opportunities.

·         Employment of more tutors/teachers.

·         Payment of tutors/ teachers’ salaries for the Self-reliance Education programme.

·         Staff and students meetings on quarterly bases.  

·         To teach skills for self-reliance.

·         To provide formal education for adults.

·         To provide job opportunities for the beneficiaries/ target groups.

·         To promote staff welfare.

·         To monitor and evaluate the Self-reliance Education Programme.

·         Maximum reduction of poverty.

 

·         Admission of 2 students into the department of Computer Science. 

·         Graduation of 3 students from the department of Computer science.

·         Adults engage in beads work,  weavingbrooms making,  computer operations, class work  etc. 

·         Over 500 pairs of shoes(for students, ladies, men and children) have been produced and supplied to those who demand them.

·         ISE Students training is also going on in the area of shoe making.

 

·         Purchase of teaching materials like chalk, text, books etc.

 

·         Fund is presently being sought to promote the programme as it still lacks sponsorship.

·         Enrollment into the programme is no longer encouraging as it continues to decline due to lack of funds for the programme. Students have produced items like rosaries, brooms, shoes, birthday cards, etc.  

 

·         Students can now operate computers i.e use internet facilities, typeset, do graphic arts, make presentations and teach others.

 

·         Trained students are now-self reliant.

 

·         Trained students now have their certificates and some have already been employed. 

 

·         Level of production has gone low as a result of unavailability of funds to sponsor the purchase of raw materialsand pay the tutors.

Prisons Pastoral Care

Prison inmates

Celebration of holy Masses, counseling, confessions, catechism, Legal aids, welfare assistance and workshops.

·         To build the spirituality of inmates

·         To promote sound moral values amongst prisoners.

·         To improve the general welfare of prisoners.

·         Advocate for improved prisons conditions and decongestion of prisons.

·         To promote corrective prison terms.

·         To facilitate access to justice for inmates.

·         To improve the skills of prison pastoral workers. 

·         Prisoners participate in the celebration of holy mass in good number and many go for confessions and receive Holy Communion.

·         Participation in the workshop organized by the NCCPPC in Owerri on Advocacy and Lobbying    from 1st to 4th June this year 2010.

·         Employment of a new legal personnel to render legal assistance to prisoners.

·         Constantvisitation of the Abakaliki and Afikpo Prisons. 

·         The general welfare of inmates have improved in some prisons.

·         Improved spiritual lives of the prison inmates.

·         More prisoners gain access to justice.

·         More prison pastoral workers gain more skill on advocacy and lobbying.

 

4.

Human Rights/ Conflict Resolution and Peace Building.

Perpetrators of extra-marital pregnancy,

Youths,

the vulnerable groups,

Infringed persons and conflict groups in Ebonyi state.

Intervention, Sensitization, Assessments, Negotiation, Mediations, Advocacy and Adjudication.  Organization of stakeholders’ fora and employment of change agents. ADR.

·         To ensure  peace between individuals and  conflicting groups.

·         To protect the vulnerable groups from infringements.

·         To uphold the fundamental human rights of the people.
